How can I get a copy of a police report?
If you want to request a copy of a crime report, you must mail your written request to the Records Unit. You can only receive a crime report if you are an authorized person such as the victim, the victim’s representative, or as provided in Section 6254 of the Government Code. Send your request to: Sacramento Police Department, Records Unit, 5770 Freeport Blvd Suite 100, Sacramento, CA 95822.

To obtain a copy of a crime report, you must provide:

  • The name(s) and address(es) of the victim(s).
  • The insurance policy number if the requestor is an insurance company.
  • A release from the victim if the request is from an attorney.
  • The type of report - robbery, assault, etc.
  • The date and location of occurrence.
  • A report (case) number, if known.

How can I get a copy of my criminal record?

  • A personal criminal history report can be ordered for current or former California residents by requesting a Record Review Packet from the State of California. The current fee is $32.00 (U.S. currency only).
  • By phone: Call (916) 227-3849 or 322-2209. Select option 3, then 1, then 1 again, to leave your request for a packet.
  • Request the packet by mail from: California Dept. of Justice P.O. Box 903417 Sacramento, CA 94203-4170 U.S.A. Attn: Records Review Unit (do NOT send the fee with your written packet request).

How can I obtain Police Statistics?

We provide several ways for you to obtain crime statistics from us.  The easiest way is from our web site. There are 2 types of information available:

  • Crime Maps let you chose what type(s) of crime you want to see and displays them on an interactrive map that allows you to zoom in on a specific area.
  • Database files are available (in Visual FoxPro/MS Access 2000 format) for download that contain the basic information from all of our crime reports from 1991 to present.

How can I get a police clearance letter for immigration purposes?

California Department of Justice: The California Department of Justice (DOJ) will provide a statewide criminal clearance if you are an immigration applicant and you have been directed to obtain California or local clearances by the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service, by a United States consulate or embassy, or by a foreign government for emigration from the United States. Processing time is approximately three to four weeks. For recorded DOJ clearance letter information, call 916-227-3822.

Federal Bureau of Investigation: You may also request a clearance letter for the purposes of immigration, emigration and visas from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The FBI furnishes national clearances directly to the embassy or consulate that is processing the applicant. For further information regarding an FBI clearance letter, please call the FBI at 202-324-3000.
