All cases filed online will be reviewed. Upon review, if further information is needed for your report, you may be contacted.
It is impossible for detectives to personally discuss each and every case with all crime victims. A detective will not routinely contact you, unless the detective requires additional information. Your report will be evaluated by the Detective Division to determine if the case will be assigned to a detective. This determination is based on the following “Solvability Guidelines:”
- Suspect Named, known or Identified.
- Investigative leads that can lead to an arrest.
- Likelihood that an arrest will be made.
If there are 1) no suspects, 2) no investigative leads or 3) little likelihood of arrest, the case will NOT be assigned.
By making the effort to complete this report you assist your community and the Police Department by providing real time crime trend information and important statistical data.
When you are finished filing your online report, you will:
- See the words: "Your report has been submitted" showing that your report is complete.
- Be given a temporary case number.
- Be able to print a copy of the report to keep for your records.
If an officer has responded to your non-injury accident and stated that your report doesn’t meet minimum reporting requirements, you may submit a report through this on-line system and you must report your accident directly to the California Department of Motor Vehicles. (You can download the form at http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/sr/sr1.pdf) If you previously called to report an accident and were advised an officer would be dispatched and are still waiting for the officer, call 264-5471.
